Organizational Excellence
We build continuous improvement into everything we do.
This year, we received recognition from outside organizations and listened to our employees about where we are leaders in our sector and where we can improve.
Highlights from 2024-25
Applying the standard: Accreditation with Commendation
In October 2024, our PCN proudly received Accreditation with Commendation from Accreditation Canada — an achievement that reflects our commitment to quality, safety, and people-centred care.
This recognition followed a third-party assessment of our leadership, governance, clinical programs, and services against national standards of excellence. We met over 96 per cent of the applicable standards, a result that speaks to the strength and consistency of our practices across the organization. While we’ve been accredited since 2021, this Accreditation with Commendation status confirms the hard work of our teams and dedication to continuous improvement.
Accreditation is not a one-time milestone but an ongoing journey. We continue to use insights from our evaluation and annual audits to strengthen our organization and make our workplaces even safer.
Awards and recognition: Canada’s Safest Employer and Alberta’s Top Employers
2024 saw our PCN honoured with two major workplace recognitions:
- We were named an Excellence Awardee in Canada’s Safest Employer Awards for Canada’s Safest Public Sector/Non-Profit Employer, recognizing our strong culture of health, safety, and well-being.
- We were selected as one of Alberta’s Top Employers for 2025, celebrating our commitment to creating and maintaining an exceptional workplace through meaningful employee support, innovation, and continuous improvement.
These acknowledgements reflect the efforts of our entire team and our shared dedication to making our PCN a safe, inclusive, and rewarding place to work.
Striving for more: Certificate of Recognition (COR) safety audit
We proudly achieved COR certification, receiving an audit score of 95 per cent — a reflection of our mission to maintain safe and healthy workplaces. The COR audit, conducted by a certified third-party evaluator, confirmed that our Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) meets or exceeds Alberta’s provincial safety standards.
To prepare, we conducted a pre-audit early in the year to identify areas for improvement. As a result, we strengthened several practices, including:
- Delivering incident report training for managers
- Developing new emergency response procedures for flood and lockdown/active shooter situations
- Incorporating health and safety responsibilities into annual performance reviews
- Updating our Health, Safety, and Welfare policy to clarify supervisor and team member responsibilities
Our teams and leadership demonstrated a high level of engagement throughout the process, from training and communications to active participation in auditor interviews.
To support ongoing awareness and compliance, we share a quarterly Safety Spotlight that outlines workplace incidents, corrective actions, and safety improvements. We also publish monthly Safety Topics articles from our OHS Committee, offering timely tips and reminders that help keep safety top of mind.
Listening to our people: Employee Engagement Survey
Our annual employee survey, conducted by an external consulting firm, offers valuable insights into our employees’ engagement.
This survey acts as our compass, giving us a better understanding of how team members feel about the work environment so we can use it as a guide to continuously improve.
From the 2024-25 survey, we learned:
were moderately or highly engaged
agreed or strongly agreed that their manager supports their growth and development
agreed or strongly agreed that they were satisfied with their work-life balance
were satisfied or very satisfied with the team environment they have at our PCN
feel there is a positive and productive culture where they work
are satisfied or very satisfied with their reporting relationship with their manager
